At Perpetuo Café de Altura, we believe that truly exceptional coffee grows in harmony with the life that surrounds it. That’s why, at our farm El Rosal, we cultivate coffee not only with passion and skill, but with deep respect for nature.
Today, we want to share something we’re proud of: we believe we already meet several of the criteria for the prestigious Bird Friendly® certification, granted by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, and we’re working to fulfill them all.
✔️ What we already do:
🌳 Living shade and biodiversity: Our farm is surrounded by native trees and vegetation that protect the soil, regulate temperature, and provide shelter for birds, insects, and other wildlife.
📋 Full traceability: We control every stage of the process, from cultivation to cup, ensuring responsible and transparent practices at all times.
🌱 Sustainable farming practices: We avoid aggressive chemicals, protect our water sources, and maintain soil fertility using natural methods.
🤝 Social commitment: We support local workers, many of them women, and promote inclusion both in the countryside and in the city.
🔄 What we're working to strengthen:
🐦 Migratory bird monitoring: We aim to launch a formal inventory of the species that visit our coffee farm—friends of our crested sparrow, Zonotrichia capensis, who inspired our logo.
🌾 Organic certification: While we follow natural farming practices, we have not yet pursued formal organic certification.
📐 Technical measurement of shade and canopy coverage: We dream of conducting a formal study to confirm that we meet the Bird Friendly® habitat criteria—such as canopy height, tree diversity, and shade density.
Our dream is for every cup of Perpetuo to not only offer a unique flavor, but also represent a way of producing coffee that protects those who grow it, those who enjoy it… and the birds flying among us. 🌎☕
From our farm to your cup… and to the sky as well.
